Live and Learn

Hello Lovelies!

In order to understand this post, let me paint a scenario in your mind.

The time is 6:00 PM. Your family is getting ready to eat a nice meal when all of a sudden the doorbell rings.

Angrily dad goes and answers the door.

“What do you want?” says Dad

“Good evening Sir. My name is George. Has anyone told you about this great new service?”

“No. And I don’t care. Have you no respect? I’m trying to eat dinner with my family.”

Dad slams the door and walks away.

If you say you’ve never experienced something similar to this then you are lying. I know I have; on both sides of the door. I use to be a door-to-door salesperson

Right after my husband and I got married, he lost his job. We packed up and moved to the Seattle area since there were more jobs available. After searching and searching for jobs, I came across this “great” management training program. After three rounds of interviews, I was offered the job as an account executive to do face-to-face marketing for Century Link. . I didn’t know face-to-face meant being the annoying person knocking on doors trying to sell TV, phone, & internet.

Here is what my typical day looked like Monday-Saturday:

9-10:30 am: Get everything ready for the day. Make a plan of attack; meet with your leaders.

10:30-noon: “Management training part” Learn what it takes to be a manager; team management; sales

Noon-8:30 PM: Walk around neighborhoods; I would knock on 50-60 doors and talk to maybe 8-10 people. Out of those 8-10 people, I would get 1-2 people to actually sign up.

8:30-9:00 pm: Wind down and go home. Once a week we would have team night and hang together outside of the office.

 I survived for about 8 months before I couldn’t take it anymore. I was tired all the time and had no life.

However, I did learn a few things about myself.

1.) Sometimes you have to tough: News Flash, not everyone is nice to people knocking at their doors. When you got the angry person yelling at you, it was hard not to yell back. Since most of the time I was by myself, I learned that I needed to be tough if I was going to survive.

2.) Don’t be afraid of rejection: The biggest thing to know is that not everyone will want your product. I dealt with rejection on a daily basis. I would keep my chin up and go found the person that wanted my products.

3.) If I put my mind to something. I can do it: I was pretty darn good at this job. Actually, I was a rock star at this job. It was something that I never thought I would be good at. I put 100% effort into the job unless I didn’t want to get paid. This job was 100% commission.  I would get paid for how hard I worked so I worked my butt off.

Do I regret my job as a door-to-door salesperson? No.

Did it help me grow as a person both personally and professional? Absolutely.

Would I ever do it again? No way.

Until next time,

Jennifer

Weekly Wishes #5

The Nectar Collective

Hello lovelies!

Is it really already Monday? This weekend came by in a blur.

I travelled down to Oregon to help my best friend of 20ish years plan her wedding! Only three more months until the big day!

We got my dress this weekend and I’m so excited for it to get here and to wear it.

I love weddings!

Weekly Wishes is a place for hopes/dreams/goals/ideas for the upcoming week.

{one}

No Spend on unnecessary things: My name is Jennifer and I have a spending problem. I’ve tried this before and failed horribly. After that attempt, I elevated my spending habits and realized that 95% of my purchases were impulse, unnecessary buys. I really want to save money so I’m going to take this week by week instead of a month.

{two}

Cook dinner twice: I’m not the best cook so my husband likes to do this cooking. I want to cook dinner for him twice so that we can spend time together when he gets home.

{three}

No soda: I’m going cold turkey on not drinking soda. I tried the 2-1 ratio and it didn’t work. Maybe cold turkey is the way to go.

{four}

Organize my closet: The mess in my closet is getting out of control. It’s getting harder and harder to find anything. Maybe if I did a little bit every night, the monster will get tamed.

How did last week go?

1. Create an awesome playlist: Pretty Well. I created one but listened to a book on my iPod instead.

2. Read at least one hour each night: I had ever intention to read but I would end up falling asleep.

3. Stay on a regular blog routine: I posted Monday, Weds, & Friday last week. I think that is what I’m going to stick to.

What are your weekly wishes?

Friday Letters

Hello Lovelies!

We made it to the end of another week. Everyone deserves a high five (especially if you had to work five days this week)

Dear Rain: It’s time for you to go away for a little bit. I don’t like getting wet walking to my car every day. A girl can only handle so much rain before she wants to move somewhere not so wet.

Dear Roomie and Best Friend: I hope you ladies are ready for me this weekend. We are going to get so much done for both of your weddings.

Dear Raccoons: You may be cute looking creatures but you need to go away. Stella likes to play with other animals and I don’t want her playing with you. Please just leave us alone.

Dear Sounders: It’s time for your season to start already. Now that the Seahawks are done (Super Bowl Champs) I can focus my attention to you.

Happy Friday Everyone!

How much is my face worth?

Hello lovelies!

Today’s post is a bit interesting one.

When I was browsing the blog-sphere the other day, I came across this post from a few different bloggers.

Every day I spend a little bit too much time getting ready. Come on, you got to look put together after all. Yet, I never really gave thought to how much money was actually going on my face.

Read on and let’s see how much my face is really worth.

As a disclaimer, this is no way bragging. A lot of the products I got on major discounts, free, or with coupons.

Please don’t take this as bragging.

To see where I get the photos, click them.

Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser: $6.99 (Ulta)

Cover GirlOutlast Stay Fabulous 3-In-1 Foundation: $12.99 (Ulta)

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Spot Concealer + Treatment: $9.99 (Ulta)

Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Take on the Day Mattifying Powder Pedestal

Wet n Wild Fergie Centerstage Take on the Day Mattifying Powder: ~$8 (Walgreens; price varies by store)

Nyx Matte Body Bronzer: $8.99 (Ulta)

Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion: $24 (Ulta; full size)

Urban Decay Naked 3 Pallete: $52 (Ulta)

Cover Girl LashBlast Volume mascara: $8.99 (Ulta)

Total: $131.95

Wow. When you do the math, I figured out where all my money is going.

Have you thought about how much your face is worth?

Let me know!

Have a great Wednesday!

Weekly Wishes #4

The Nectar Collective

Hello lovelies!

Happy Monday!

Can I just take a moment and tell you about the twerking that insured last night. Yes, my name is Jennifer and I’m a Miley Cyrus fan. No shame!

I was ready for the craziness she was bringing to the stage but not the craziness of her fan base. I was dressed way too classy to attend her concert. There was no way my mom would have let me out of the house in such outfits.

Never the else, I had a blast. Underneath all the craziness, Miley still proved to that she can sing.

Weekly Wishes is a place for hopes/dreams/goals/ideas for the upcoming week.

{One}

Create an awesome playlist: This weekend I’m adventuring on a 5+ hour road trip down to Eugene to go bridesmaid dress shopping with my best friend. In order to make the drive go by faster I need to come up with an awesome playlist. Any suggestions are accepted.

{Two}

Read at least one hour each night: I love to read but lately I’ve been so engrossed in other things (I’m talking to you facebook) that by the time I get to bed I have zero energy to read.

{Three}

Stay on a regular blog routine: I want to keep write every few days. I’m going to try and get posts upload on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

How did last week’s go?

1.Write three posts this week: technically, this was a success. It depends on how you view it. I wrote posts on Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday.

2. No Spend Week: This was a hard one to do. Instead of no spend, I figured out where I’m spending my money so that I can cut back now. I did end up with a good amount of money in my pocket though.

3. More water, less soda: Success! I lost 3 pounds last week.

4. I hope I haven’t scratched my darn eye again: I didn’t. I ended up with allergy.

What are you weekly wishes?

Until next time,

Jennifer

Books ‘n Bloggers’ Swap Reveal

Books 'n' Bloggers Swap

Hello Lovelies!

By accident I ran across this swap hosted by Chaotic Goddess Swaps!

Since I love books and reading, I knew this swap would be perfect for me.

The object was pretty simple.

Send your partner THREE books:

A book you love

A book you haven’t read but are interested in

A book from your partner’s wish list

I was partnered with Beverly over at Booklady’s Booknotes. I had some much fun getting to know her (even if she wasn’t rooting for the correct football team).

photo

(Sorry about the horrible picture. It was taken on my iPhone).

Cinder and Sloppy First were two books on my wish list.

The Testing is the book that she loves.

Defy is on her TBR list.

Not only did I get four books, she also included two bookmarks.

I loved this swap and can’t wait to do it again.

If you need me, I’ll be lost in different worlds.

Weekly Wishes #3

The Nectar Collective

Today I’m linking up with The Nectar Collective for weekly wishes/hopes/dreams/goals

Hello Lovelies!

I survived the unexpected weekend snowstorm. It was rough and cold but we survived.

I’m so over this cold weather and want sunshine to come.

Anywho, it’s time to start this week’s addition of the weekly wishes.

This is where I tell you about my dreams/hopes/wishes etc. that I want to accomplish in the next week.

This Week’s Wishes:

{one}

Write three posts this week: I’m slowly getting back into the swing of blogging again. Instead of overdoing it and screaming like a little girl I want to ease my way back into it little by little. I hope to get three posts written this week instead of trying to write every day. I will get back to every day status when I’m not so overwhelmed.

{two}

No Spend Week: To save money for the Kindle Fire I want, I told my husband I would stop spending money on unnecessary things. I know there are no spend months and everything but I want to start small. I wrote down how much money I had in my account at the start of the week so that by the end of the week I can see how much I saved.

{three}

More water, less soda: I have an addition to soda. A very serious addition (admitting the first step right?). Like 3-4 sodas a day kind. I don’t drink coffee so it’s the only form of caffeine I get. Apparently it’s bad for you. I want to start being healthy so I’m going to kick the soda habit (or at least attempt too). I can’t go cold turkey or else I would be super cranky and have headaches all day. I’m going to try the 2-1 ratio. For every one can of soda I drink I need to drink 2 cups before I can think of getting another can. If I don’t drink the two cups of water then no soda for me. Fingers crossed that I can kick this habit slowly but surely.

{four}

I hope I haven’t scratched my darn eye again: I’m making a habit of this. I’m not doing it on purpose I swear. My eye’s been really red and watery again. I think I got the medicine in before it gets worse. Happy thoughts that I’m only tired and didn’t scratched the cornea again.

Here’s how I did with last week’s wishes:

1. Try and write my posts the night before: We all know how that turned out. Not achieved.

2. Spend one hour “tech free” every day: Actually this one was a little easier then I thought. My husband and I were able to spend more quality time together. We even cooked dinner together a few nights.

3. Buy lunch once this week: I was so close on this one. I brought my lunch twice.

What are some of your weekly wishes?

Until next time!

Jennifer

I’m Alive.

Hi Lovelies!

I wanted to write a quick message to everyone to let you know that I’m alive and kicking.

I’ve just been a bad little blogger lately. I have all these great posts planned but by the time I get ready to post/write them I’m way too tired to do anything and end up falling asleep. I’m trying to get into a new routine that hopefully will allow me more time to blog. .

Thank you for being so patient and understanding.

I will be back with more regular posts soon.

Have a great day!
