A one-time bad girl comes home to small-town Oregon in the first in a sexy, heartfelt new series from USA TODAY bestselling author Maisey Yates…

Sadie Miller isn’t expecting any welcome-home parades on her return to Copper Ridge. Least of all from parttime rancher, full-time lawman Eli Garrett. The straight-laced, impossibly hot deputy sheriff glares at her like she’s the same teenage hoodlum who fled town ten years ago. But running from her demons has brought Sadie full circle, ready to make a commitment at last. Not to a man, but to a B and B. On Garrett land. Okay, so her plan has a tiny flaw…

Eli works too hard to let a blonde ball of trouble mess up his town. But keeping an eye on Sadie makes it tough to keep his hands off her. And if she’s so wrong for him, why does being with her feel so right?

Her Writing Process:
People often ask about my process, and I have a hard time knowing exactly how to answer the questions. For me, process is kind of an ever evolving thing. Each and every book is different, each set of characters is different, and they all have different requirements.
With some books, I dive straight in and just see where the jumping off point takes me. With others, I find I need to do a little bit more pre-work. Some I map out on index cards, others I work out with lists, or crazy scrawls on Post-it notes.
Part Time Cowboy got the chalkboard treatment. I drew some sketches, some character outlines, and some relevant facts about side characters on a chalkboard that sits on my desk so that any quick info I might need (how old my hero was when his mother left, that sort of thing) was handy.
I also created a series bible. This is just a file on my computer that contains information (age, hair color, eye color, family relationships) about every character that has ever walked on screen, or even been mentioned in a Copper Ridge book. It also has a lot of photos of houses, places I’m using as inspiration, so that descriptions in the different books are consistent. I did most of the writing for the book in my at-home office, which is really where I do the bulk of my work for all of my books. I’m very fortunate to have a nice, private space to call my own. I have some inspiration pictures, and a whole lot of knickknacks, cork boards and chalkboards that I use to inspire me whenever I need it!
I usually buy a special scented candle for each book, and burn it while I write. I also make use of pinterest boards and playlists. That first day of ‘working on a book’ is usually really buying my new candle at Target, choosing music and playing with pretty pictures to get myself excited about the story. I like to have good sights, good smells and good sounds all around me to help establish the right mood, both for the book and myself.
After I finished the full draft for Part Time Cowboy, I printed it out. I always find that stage really satisfying. You get a full look at all the work you’ve done. An endless scroll of text on a computer screen doesn’t give you quite feel for all you’ve accomplished in the same way a gigantic stack of papers does.
Then I read through, leaving myself very encouraging notes, as you can see pictured here. After inputting all the changes, I was ready to send it off to my editor. That was how this particular book came to be (except I left out the part about eating a ton of candy and whining endlessly to my critique partner about how HARD my heroine was to figure out). Each book is different, and that’s part of the fun!

Book Tour || Finding Fisher

Today I am taking part in the Finding Fisher Book Tour hosted by reading Addiction Virtual Book Tours. Read on for an interview with the author!

Book Information:

Title: Finding Fisher

Author: Dakota Madison

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

Release Date: March 2 2015

Finding Fisher is a short novel about love, lies, loyalty and what it means to be truly alive.

Franklin Smith was the perfect fiancé. He was at the top of our class at Stanford and had been recently accepted to Harvard Law. But Spring Break our senior year of college changed everything. He went back home to New Jersey and never returned. At his funeral I discovered a guy I never knew. His secret past. And a twin brother, Fisher, I didn’t know existed.

Author’s Note: When I learned about the tragic death of cover model Josh Nicholson and saw the wonderful photos that Eric McKinney of 6:12 Photography had taken of Josh I just knew I had to write a book in his memory. This is the novel that Joshua Scott Nicholson inspired.

A portion of the profits from the cover and book sales will be donated to Joining Hearts, Inc., a 501(c)(3), all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to providing housing support to people living with HIV and AIDS in Atlanta, in memory of Josh.

Interview with Dakota Madison

* How do you name your characters? As you are writing, before, or after you are done?

I like to name all of the main characters before I start any project. I think the names are such an important part of discovering who the characters are.

* What advice would you give to future writers?

Write every day and read as much as you write.

* What do you wish you would have known before writing your book?

Before I started writing romance novels I wish I had known about writing in a series. I wrote a lot of stand-alone novels and they are much more difficult to promote and market than a series.

* Best/Favorite Place to write?

In my bed or on my patio.

* What is your writing environment like?

I like silence. I find any noise distracting.

* Where did you come up with the idea for the book?

When I learned about the tragic death of cover model Josh Nicholson and saw the wonderful photos that Eric McKinney of 6:12 Photography had taken of Josh I just knew I had to write a book in his memory. Finding Fisher is the novel that Joshua Scott Nicholson inspired.

* Is there a message that you want readers to grasp?

Everyone deals with death in their own way and there is not one “right” way to grieve.

* Who inspired you to write?

I know it probably sounds like a cliche, but I feel like I was born a writer. It’s what I told everyone I wanted to do when I was a little kid.

* Do you do any research for your book?

This book did not require much research.

* Hardest part of writing?

I don’t think writing is hard. I think the business of writing is hard. Creating awareness of your work is extremely time consuming.

* Favorite character to write?

How can one pick a favorite child? I love all of my characters!

* Do you get to come up with the cover art?

Because the book is a special project inspired by and dedicated to the cover model, I wanted the cover to feature him prominently.

* If your book was made into a movie, who is your dream cast?

Chloe Woodford-Nicola Peltz
Fisher Smith- Ryan Guzman
Mrs. Sherry Smith – Maria Bello

* If you were ship-wrecked on a desert island, what three books would you want with you?

Just three? Not fair! Maybe the Dragon Tattoo trilogy.

* Dream Author to work with?

Most of my all-time favorite writers have been dead for decades. It’s a difficult question to ask because writing is such a solitary process. In order for me to want to work with someone I would need to know a lot about their temperament.

Looking For Love

Book Information:

Title: Looking For Love

Author: Ashelyn Drake

Release Date: March 17th 2015

Mike Hannigan is looking for love in all the wrong places. Maybe that’s because having his heart torn to shreds by who he thought was the perfect girl left some emotional scarring. But that’s about to change.

Summer Patterson isn’t like anyone Mike’s dated before, and he can’t help but be intrigued by her. Now if only he could keep his foot out of his mouth long enough to win her over. But when a secret involving Summer brings Mike’s past crashing back to the present, he’ll need some backup from his best friend and wingwoman, Mindy, to sort out the mess.

Will Mike find love before he leaves Timberland College for good?

Exclusive Excerpt

Curvy hips grind against mine in tune with the music. This girl knows how to move. I

lean in so my lips brush her ear lobe. “Want to take this back to my room?” I whisper and

then pull away to see her response. Instead, a hand grabs my forearm and I hear Mindy’s

“Babe, there you are. I’ve been looking all over for you.” Mindy smiles sweetly, as if

she isn’t the worst wingman on the face of the planet, pulling this “Babe” bullshit to scare away a sure thing.

“What are you doing?” I ask her between gritted teeth.

“Sorry,” Mindy says to the girl, who has now stopped pressing her tight body against

mine and is allowing the entire basement of Ace’s frat house to see the mega-sized boner

I’m sporting. “But we really need to get going.” Before I can protest, Mindy loops her arm through mine and pulls me away.

“Did you really just cock block me?” I ask her, not trying to mask my annoyance.

“You’ll thank me later.”

“My blue balls beg to differ.” We head up the stairs, and I eye the girls who are on

their way down to the party with plastic cups in hand. I smile at them, which earns me

dirty looks in response, because of course they assume Mindy is my girlfriend.

“Oh whatever,” Mindy says. “You’ll take a cold shower and get over it. That girl

was disgusting, Mike. You deserve better.”

The warm spring air hits my face as we walk outside. “Shouldn’t you be out with

Ben?” I haven’t seen Mindy much lately, not since she and Ben became inseparable. I

give her credit for bagging a younger man. Though I’m not sure how things can work out

for them since he’s only a freshman and she’s graduating in less than a month. But since

she hasn’t whined about it to me, I’m assuming she has a plan.

“He went home for the weekend, so it’s just you and me for two days.”

Great. Two days of Mindy lecturing me about relationships and why meaningless sex

is a bad thing. “Must be my lucky day.”

She squeezes my arm. “Trust me, you’ll be happy to have me as your wingman once

I find you a nice girl.”

“Nice? How about hot, sexy, and ready for anything?”

She shoves me toward her car. “Get in before I question why I bother being your best

I open the passenger door but don’t get in. Instead I lean on the door and meet her

eyes. “Because you secretly love me but know it would never work between us, and the

mere thought of losing me is too much for you to bear. So you settle for being my best

friend because it’s the most you can hope for.”

My Thoughts:

– What a happy book! It was such a bright spot on some cloudy days.

– Even through it was a quick read, I still like it. It left me with so many feelings.

– The best part is how Summer makes Mike work for her love. It’s refreshing to see a character like that. It’s different then most romantic novels.

Release Day Launch || Boundless Fate

We’re having a release day launch for Boundless Fate by Alicia Rae! She’s sharing an excerpt with us, as well as a fantastic giveaway, so be sure to check out all the release day festivities.

Exclusive Excerpt:

I pulled off the main road of Paige’s home and slipped my truck into park. An overwhelming sense of relief filled me when I saw she’d made it home safely. All the lights were off, and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary.

Except the lonely ache I felt inside.

I’d barely ate or slept in four days. But in this moment, I just wanted Paige, nothing else mattered. The thought of her sleeping alone in her bed without me combined with the desperate need to feel her body against mine had me slouching forward and resting my forehead against the steering wheel.

I closed my eyes briefly, and muttered, “Don’t do it, idiot,” as I fought the impulse to go to her.

I could practically feel her heart beating—her soul calling to mine—I was that connected to her.

I was a starved man, yearning to have her in my arms. Before I was able to stop myself, I was striding across her front lawn, feeling an internal pull to be with her. I went around to the backside of the house and tapped on her window.

While standing there my attention fell to the grass, and all of the reasons why this was a bad idea oppressed me. I shouldn’t be here. Staying away from Paige was the only way I could protect her. I couldn’t let Hank see how deeply mine and Paige’s love went for one another, or he could possibly take his animosity for me out on her. And if Hank hurt Paige in any way, it would be game over—there was no telling what I would do. She was my weakness and my strength all rolled into one, right around my heart.

Just as I was about to walk away and let Paige be, a dim light flickered on. The white curtain covering the window pane was drawn to the side, and I lifted my gaze. Paige stood before me staring through the clear glass, dressed in a long white tee. The conflicting emotions in her beautifully brown eyes reflected the way I felt inside, and it caused my heart to thump unevenly.

She lifted the window and then leaned forward while wrapping her fingers around the window frame, peering down at me.

“Colton,” she breathed my name, and I was uncertain if it was meant as a greeting or a question.

“Can I come in?” I queried, getting straight to the point before I came up with reasons to force myself to leave her be.

“Yes.” She stepped aside.

I braced my palms on the bottom ledge and hoisted myself upward. My right shoulder hit the window framing as the upper half of my body made it inside her room. I hadn’t crawled through this window in ages, but the damn thing seemed smaller.

I lowered my feet to the ground and stood tall before briefly turning to close the window at my back.

When I faced the room again, Paige was at the edge of her bed. She sat down and nestled herself under the comforter. When her eyes met mine, she grasped the corner of the blanket and lifted it as though a silent invitation.

Without a single sound, I slipped off my boots and went to her. Once climbing in next to her, she let the comforter gradually fall over me and stretched over to the nightstand where she turned off the light.

Then, she settled back down on her right hip, her back toward me. I could feel her hesitation as she tried to distance herself from me.

To feel that kind of uncertainty pouring out of her was the same as someone cracking open my chest and grabbing ahold of my heart. But in truth, I couldn’t blame her for feeling this way, because it was my fault for being hot and cold all over the place. It wasn’t fair to her.

Desperately craving her warmth and needing to know that we were okay even though it was wrong of me to do so, my arm came to the center of her stomach, and in slow motion, I hauled her into my chest.

She didn’t fight me.

I outstretched one arm above her head and rested my cheek on my bicep while scooting closer till my nose rested against her hair, so I could inhale the sweet scent of her. With my other hand still at her center, I began to methodically rub tiny circles on her abdomen with the pad of my thumb. Her breathing increased with every full loop.

My eyes began to fall heavy with the weight of the last few days. I was so damn tired, but lying here with Paige—just like this—was all I ever wanted.

“Colton?” she asked suddenly out of the blue.

Her hand came to my wrist and she caressed it softly. “What are you doing here?”

Paige couldn’t have asked me a tougher question, and I bit back the defeat I felt inside. I didn’t hold the answer she was looking for. Instead, I made light of the situation, hoping to make her smile. “Sneaking in your window. Which shrunk drastically in size over the years, by the way.”

A quiet laughter seeped out of her, and I found myself genuinely smiling for the first time in days. She rotated to face me and set her hand on my chest. “It didn’t shrink. You have—” She skimmed her palm across my chest up to my shoulder—“broadened, so you don’t fit through it as well as you used to.”

“Maybe,” I grinned mischievously.

In that instant, so many childhood reminiscences with Paige flashed through my mind, all of them filling my soul with sense of peace.

As a teen, there had been countless nights where I longed to see her so I’d go to her house and knock on her window. Paige would come outside, and we would lay in the grass for hours, watching the stars.

Even in the midst of my darkest days, those memories could bring a smile to my face. It was her that kept me going.

An unexplainable calm tranquility settled over me at having Paige’s body pressed against mine. She gave me hope I’d find myself again, and she made me believe someday I could let go of the hate and revenge I carried inside of me.

A profound tiredness took over me from the build-up of the past several happenings, and I was losing the will power to keep my eyes open.

Paige rose her hand to touch my cheek, caressing it. Her skin was so soft.

“Colton?” she repeated my name, softer this time.

I gazed down at her. “Yeah?”

The movement of my thumb paused on her stomach from the intensity burning in her eyes. “You know that’s not the answer I was looking for…”

“No, it wasn’t,” I agreed, knowing she deserved an honest explanation. “I don’t know why I’m here, only that I didn’t have the strength to stay away, so please, just let me hold you.”

“Okay.” She set her finger on my lower lip and gently ran it back and forth. Then, she leaned in and softly kissed the corner of my mouth. “Goodnight, cowboy.”

“Night,” was all I had time to say before sleep carried me away.

Happy Monday!

Today is the first Monday I woke up and didn’t have to go to work. It was very strange. It’s going to take some getting use to. But first it’s time for a vacation. I’m going to be spending the next week with my best friend! Before I head out, I have my latest reading list ready to go! Here is what I am reading this week!

For My Eyeballs!

The DUFF: Designated Ugly Fat Friend

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

* OMG! I can’t beleive that I didn’t read this book earlier. It is so good.  I highly recommend this book for anyone. I’m about 50% done with it. *

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore

The Great Recession has shuffled Clay Jannon away from life as a San Francisco web-design drone and into the aisles of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. But after a few days on the job, Clay discovers that the store is more curious than either its name or its gnomic owner might suggest. The bookstore’s secrets extend far beyond its walls.

*A friend of mine sent me a copy of this book. It comes highly recommended for me. I can’t wait to dive right in.*

For My Ears:

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

About three things I was absolutely positive:

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him – and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be – that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

When Bella Swan moves to the gloomy town of Forks and meets Edward Cullen, her life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. With his porcelain skin, golden eyes, mesmerizing voice, and supernatural gifts, Edward is both irresistible and impenetrable. Up until now, he has managed to keep his true identity hidden, but Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret.

What Bella doesn’t realize is the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself and those around her at risk. And it might be too late to turn back..

* I have a 4 hour road trip coming up that I needed something to listen to. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve read the Twilight series that it was time to revisit them.*

What are you guys reading this week?

My Thoughts

– I love the fact that this book is told in alternating sides. That is by far my favorite style of writing. Major bonus points.

– The Problem with heartache is the third book in a series but I feel that it can be read as a standalone book. I had no problem following along with the story. However, after reading this book, I want to go and get the previous books.

–  This book was great from the beginning to the end. Be warned once you start reading it, you can’t stop until you have already finished the book.

Life Lately- 5 On Friday

Happy Friday Ya’ll!

Today I am linking up with April, Christina, Darci, and Natasha for their 5 on Friday!

Since it’s been a long while since I’ve updated you on my life! I figured today’s post would be perfect.

My work contract officially ends today. After a year and a half at the same company, I am officially unemployed. As of right now, my life is going to consist of lots of puppy cuddles and book reading. Be on the look out for more personal posts since I will have the time!

Stella and I figured we needed the practice!

Sounders Season is officially here! I have been waiting since December for this time of the year. This is the first year we are a full season ticket holder. My soccer loving heart can’t handle it! And yes, I am still mad we lost last weekend. I don’t want to talk about it.

My weekend attire!

If you need to find me, I will be here most weekends

Concerts! This Spring/Summer/Fall is shaping up to be a great time for concerts! There are some good ones on my plate. Going to Watershed, Luke Bryan, Shania with a few others in between. My credit card may hate me but at least my heart is full of country music!

Stella really felt like she needed to make an appearance again. This time she stole my pillow and blanket so that I would take her picture. Most of my “free-time (after work and soccer practices)” have been spent with this cutie. In case you didn’t know, I am a tax-season widow. My husband is a CPA and is working 75+ hours until April 15th. So it’s Stella and I holding down the home front.

In the words of Olivia Pope, “It’s handled”

I was walking to the store the other day when I came across this sign. Sometimes we need to celebrate the little victories in life!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

What if we can’t choose
Every battle we win and lose

What if we decided years before, to live this life, to fight these wars
And all the dreams we ever thought were ours
Were written in the stars”

Waiting tables isn’t exactly what singer/songwriter Stephanie has in mind for her move to Nashville, but memories of the past and a case of writer’s block mean inspiration isn’t coming easy. When brooding pianist Conor Judge opens his mouth in a smoky bar he proves music can heal, and even help you re-write your story, but a history of his own means the one thing he starts to want most is always just out of reach. Stephanie.

Enter Travis Flynn – an upcoming star who won’t take no for an answer, and a record label intent on helping Stephanie shine, without Conor. As fame comes knocking as hard as the ghosts of their pasts, it soon becomes clear that no matter how hard you might fall in love, having the perfect songs doesn’t always mean perfect harmony.

Becky’s Top Ten Favorite Words
1. Soliloquy. I just think this is a beautiful word, right? Although not many people will hear me say that out loud as it means talking when alone!
2. Waddlesome. I love this word, especially combined with sloth. I don’t think you can paint a better picture of a slow-moving lazy person than by calling them a waddlesome sloth.
3. Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious… even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. Haha! This must be the best made-up word ever, right? God bless Mary Poppins. Can’t say I’ve ever written it into a book though.
4. Sekali. This is an Indonesian word I learnt in Bali. It basically means ‘very much’, so you’re making sekali, for example, which means very hungry. Love the way it rolls off the tongue!
5. Pernicious. I use this one a lot, especially when describing rough water. For example, ‘the pernicious swipe of the waves on the rocks’. Nice, huh?
6. Eidolon. This one means a phantom, or a spiritimage of a living or dead person. It’s kind of creepy, right? I always thought it would make a good book title.
7. Misbegotten. I’m not sure why I like this one so much as it’s quite dark and depressing
way of saying something’s ill conceived and bad. I just think it’s kind of majestic somehow!
8. Unconscionable. I like this one and use it quite a lot because I think it makes me sound clever (ahem). It means unreasonably excessive, which writers know a lot about, especially when it comes to drinking coffee and/or wine.
9. Megalomaniac. Another great way of describing a power crazy, self important tyrant. I like to have a good megalomaniac in a book to highlight the somewhat nicer traits in other characters!
10. Arbitrary. A great word about chance that also rhymes with canary, on the off chance you’re writing a song about canaries.

My Thoughts

– I am in love with this book.

– The love between Stephanie and Conner made me cry. They needed each other more than they realized.

– Travis was the absolute best villain that I love to hate. He was such a loveable character while still being a big meanie.

– Whenever Stephanie and Conner sang or wrote songs I felt like I was there along side them, getting lost in their music.

She ultimately got more than she could have ever bargained for.

In Molly’s Game, she takes you through her adventures running an exclusive high-stakes private poker game catering to such clients as Hollywood royalty like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck, athletes, billionaires, politicians, and financial titans. With rich detail, Molly describes a world of glamour, privilege, and secrecy in which she made millions, lived the high life, and fearlessly took on the Russian and Italian mobs until she met the one adversary she could not outsmart: the United States government.

My Thoughts:

– I wasn’t sure what to expect when I received this book. But after I started reading it, I couldn’t stop.

– I’ve never really been into poker but after reading this book, I wanted to grab a deck of cards and learn.

– At first I was envious of Molly’s job, getting to host these high profile poker games but after some time, I realized that it wasn’t the job for me.

– Everyone should go out and read this book!
