Book Review || Faking Perfect

Faking Perfect

Book Information:

Title: Faking Perfect

Author: Rebecca Phillips

Format: ebook from Netgalley

Release Date: June 30th 2015

Genre: Fiction, Romance, Young Adult

Synopsis (Goodreads)

When Lexi Shaw seduced Oakfield High’s resident bad boy Tyler Flynn at the beginning of senior year, he seemed perfectly okay with her rules:

1. Avoid her at school.
2. Keep his mouth shut about what they do together.
3. Never tease her about her friend (and unrequited crush) Ben.

Because with his integrity and values and golden boy looks, Ben can never find out about what she’s been doing behind closed doors with Tyler. Or that her mom’s too busy drinking and chasing losers to pay the bills. Or that Lexi’s dad hasn’t been a part of her life for the last thirteen years. But with Tyler suddenly breaking the rules, Ben asking her out, and her dad back in the picture, how long will she be able to go on faking perfect?

My thoughts

– This book teaches the reader a valuable lesson.

– Lexi spends hours putting on the perfect face before she leaves for school every day. In everyone’s eyes, she is perfect and flawless. Little do they know that she is faking perfect.

– Lexi starts a secret hooking up relationship with the school’s resident drug dealer, Tyler. He must follow her three rules: avoid her at school, keep his mouth shut, and don’t talk about her crush on Ben.

– When Ben finally asks Lexi out, everything starts crashing down. Lexi’s perfect image becomes cracked and flawed.

– This book is a great example of not judging a book by it’s cover. Nothing is what it seems.

– Even though Rebecca, wrote Tyler as the school bad boy, he was my favorite character. From page one, I fell in love with him. I was rooting for him to get his happy ending.

– This is a great and quick read, everyone should read it.

Book One of the Hot Alpha Billionaire Series

Stand alone. Not a cliff-hanger. HEA. M/F, Mild D/s themes.

How does a sophisticated man with everything, convince an unassuming older woman with nothing, that she’s what he desperately needs?

At 36, Chase Tanner controlled his world and the women in his bed. With a grown son and several successful businesses, he thought he had everything a man could desire… until he walked down the aisle of a country hardware store and saw exactly what he needed for a happily-ever-after. Now, he just had to make her believe it.

You’re just not good enough, Kali.”

Her ex-husband’s hurtful words echoed in Kali Benson’s heart as she rebuilt her life in tiny Laketon, Washington. It took some time, but at 39, she’s happy, self-sufficient, and emotionally armored. She’s strong enough to resist a sweet-talking hunk, who drives an old Dodge truck and makes her feel nineteen again… isn’t she?

Excerpt:

Chase took the shortest route to the auto accessories area and cut through the carpentry section. He turned down the aisle and his steps slowed. Fuses, old trucks, everything, dropped off the radar as his gaze focused on the woman perusing the locks-and-hinge display.

Sweet. There was something incredibly sweet and alluring about her. More than pretty, she was arresting. His heart did a drum roll against his ribs, and he drew in a deep, stabilizing breath.

Easing to a stop a few steps away, he positioned himself near the opposite side of the aisle as if he were interested in something other than her. Not the most inspired tactic, but he needed a moment to process her intense effect on him.

In profile, she had a straight, refined nose, full lips, and a balanced chin. Thick, golden-brown hair shimmered in glossy layers past her shoulders, styled with a fringe of bangs across her dark, tawny brows.

When she pulled an item from the display, he noticed she kept her nails a short, practical length, and she wore no wedding ring.

His eyes drifted down her slender length, admiring her lush, handful-size breasts and the pert nipples that dimpled against her knit top. She had a slim waist, gently rounded hips, and a great curvy ass, temptingly displayed in a pair of distinctive cutoffs. They were distinctive to him, at least. Although she’d removed the label, he recognized Soft Wear jeans and understood what the brand signified.

This little beauty might not want anyone in Laketon to know, but if she bought those jeans, she harbored at least some sexually submissive desires.

In a sudden, vivid image, he pictured her in his bed, her body pinned beneath him, his hands holding hers against the mattress. He imagined her thighs around his hips. The first intimate touch of his cock to her sex. Her mouth parted, gasping when he shifted deeper.

The fantasy jolted him.

He flinched and she turned her head.

Large, topaz eyes danced over him, and she smiled distractedly, the merest civility necessary, before returning her attention back to the shelves. He’d been dismissed. There was nothing haughty or superior about it, but apparently she’d found him unsuitable.

A grin tugged on his mouth. He enjoyed a challenge.

Blog Friends Diaries

Photobucket

The day is finally here! Kelly and I have been anxiously waiting for this day. It’s time for the first ever #blogfriends diaries link up.

For a little recap. We want to get to know the person behind the blog, from someone who knows you the best. Your BFF. Each month we will give you a series of questions that your BFF answers about you. It doesn’t have to be the same friend each month. Just someone that can give us the juicy details. We all caught up? Good.

With out further ado, let me introduce you to my BFF, Cortney.

That would be her, sitting with me on my wedding day.

We have been best friends for a long time. She is by far one of the greatest people I know. Through all the awkward clothes phase of middle schools, the heartaches of high school relationships, and to stand by me on my wedding day, she has been there through it all. Read on for her thoughts about me.

1 | Give us your backstory. How did you and your blogger meet?
Jennifer and I met in second grade when my family moved into Orting. It was just after spring break, and I was really nervous about starting in a new school. I tend to be pretty shy, and it was even worse back then. Jennifer, on the other hand, was not shy at all. She welcomed me in the class, asked me to play, and we have been friends ever since. Even after I move away in 5th grade, and then we both went away to college, our friendship has always been there.

2 | Share your favorite picture of the two of you
Displaying IMG_0300.JPG
This would be the two of us on her wedding day.

3 | What keeps your friendship going?
Effort, dedication, unconditional support. You don’t make it to nearly twenty years of friendship without working for it. We have both been through so much, and we have grown and changed together. There are times when we don’t talk much, and times when we talk a lot; We have gone years without actually see each other in person. But through it all, we have made the effort to include each other in our lives, and to accept the people we have grown up to be; and when we are together, it’s as if we are just picking up where we left off.

4 | Describe your blogger in one word.
Fun-sized :p. haha, but seriously…. Genuine.

5 | Describe your friendship in a song.

You’ve Got A Friend in Me — from Toy Story

I can’t wait to hear what your BFF has to say about you. Link up your posts.

Questions You Should Ask Yourself part IV

As fast as my unemployment ended, is about how fast it started up again. My latest work contract ends on May 22nd meaning I get to spend time with this cutie. Thanks for being so patient with me.

It’s been a bit since I’ve introduced myself to you fine people. I thought that today felt like a good day.  It’s time for part IV of my Questions to ask yourself series.

Check out Parts I, II, & III

If you end up doing any of these questions, let me know so I can check them out.

31} What are you not made for?

Glass. I’m not made of glass.

32} What secret would you never want your partner to find out?

I feel like if I say something, then it wouldn’t be a secret. That defeats the purpose of a secret.

33} Name 3 things you don’t want people to know about you.

Why would I tell people, if I don’t want them knowing. Instead I’m going to list three random facts.

1. I have a major phobia of elevators. I refuse to ride an elevator if there are more than four people in it.

2.  When I was growing up, I wanted to be the president’s mailman. How awesome would that be? (Check out this post about it)

3. I’ve always wished that music would randomly start playing whenever I walked into a room.

34} Why do you think your friends like you?

Because I am so awesome. I would say that it is because I am super fun to hang out. Come back Wednesday and see what they have to say about me.

35} How similar is your facebook-self to your real-self?

Since my facebook self is mainly pictures of the pup, I would say they are very similar.

36} What is the most annoying thing about your partner?

He snores so bad. And I’m a light sleeper so if he falls asleep before me. I can’t sleep.

37} Why do you publish things on the internet?

Because I can. It’s more a way for me to get my thoughts out there. The innerworkings of a female mind is hard to figure out. I thought that this way I can try and clear it up.

38} Do you have a hobby?

Reading and coach in soccer. Since soccer season is over, it’s mainly reading right now.

39} What was the last thing you searched for on Pinterest?

My best friend just got engaged. Since pinterest wasn’t really around when I was planning my wedding, we’ve been pinning her wedding. It is so addicting.

40} Who’s Facebook inbox would you love to read?

Any of the Sounders. How awesome would it be to see what other people say to them.

Hope you got a better insight into my mind.

– Jennifer

Blogger Friend Diaries

Photobucket

 Howdy Folks!

Today’s  post is an exciting. This is a little idea that Kelly  and I thought about while having too much wine.

A little background about this idea.

Have you ever noticed that there are plenty of link ups for your spouse to do. But what about all those single ladies (or in my case, the gal with a guy who doesn’t want to show his face on the blog). One day, Kelly texted me about a best friends link-up idea and in my wine drinking state, I said yes! Lo and behold, the blogger friend diaries was born.

Now for the details involved with this link-up.

The second Wednesday of the month here and at Love, Kelly Lorene your real life bestie, cousin, sister, neighbor anyone who knows you the best gets to give us all the  juicy details.

The week before the link up goes live Kelly and I will post the questions. There will be 3-5 questions for your bestie to answer. Our goal isn’t to break up friendships but to get to know the person behind the blog. These questions could be anything from how you met to what’s her biggest fear or more drama filled ones like what’s her worst quality. We know that you want to include your own commentary but please use your bestie’s exact answers. You don’t have to use the same friend every month. Or even one friend. We just want to get to know you!

Our first linkup will be Wednesday May 13. Here are the first set of questions.

1 | Give us your backstory. How did you and your blogger meet?

2 | Share your favorite picture of the two of you.

3 | What keeps your friendship going?

4 | Describe your blogger in one word.

5 | Describe your friendship in a song.

Please share this post with your friends and use #BlogFriendDiaries. Can’t wait to read everyone’s posts!

Book Review || Any Way You Slice it

Book Information:

Title: Any Way You Slice It

Author: Kristine Carlson Asselin

Format: ebook from Netgalley

Release Date: April 21, 2015

Genre: Fiction, Romance, Sports

Synopsis

A lucky shot on the ice, the hot hockey player who melts it, and her dad’s ban on all things rink related could mean the chance of a lifetime for Penelope…or land her in the penalty box.

Penelope Spaulding just can’t catch a break. Between long hours at the family restaurant, homework, and her parents’ plans for her future, it’s hard to find a spare moment to breathe. But when she laces up her skates and steps on the ice, everything slips away. . .

Racing around the rink allows her to blow off steam after yet another fight with her dad about going to culinary school. So when Jake Gomes, the bad boy who lives down the street, dares her to join the Rink Rats, the local misfit hockey team, she surprises herself and joins in silent defiance of her father and his expectations.
The more she plays, the easier it is to keep lying, and soon Pen finds it impossible to come clean. She’s sneaking out to practice—and loving every minute of it. It doesn’t take long for her to fall in love with hockey . . . and Jake’s not half bad either. But she knows it can’t last. As soon as her dad finds out, she’ll be benched. For good.

She’s absolutely not going to tell her parents until she’s sure it will be worth the inevitable fight. Not only is she skipping shifts at Slice Pizza while a foodie reality show is on the horizon, but her lies are starting to take their toll on her game. It’s only a matter of time before everything falls apart.

With the team counting on her and with her relationship with Jake on the line, will she have to sacrifice the thing she wants most for the people she loves? Or can she step up and take her best shot?

Goodreads

My thoughts

 – There is just so much to love about this book. A female trying to make it in a man’s sport always excites me. She goes after what she loves., even if her parents don’t agree.

– Penelope wants to play hockey instead of following in her father’s footsteps. of slinging pizzas but her parents have a different idea.  Her father forces her into the reality life with their pizza shop. She is living a double life. One playing hockey and the other to please her family. When the two worlds are ready to collide, she must decide. If her unique band of characters, she ultimately gets to make the right choice.

– This book has all the elements of a great book. A good plot line, great characters, A strong female lead and a romantic arc!
